Yes, yes even Dust have been swept up in the Royal news this week and not least because we fell for that gorgeous blue Issa dress Kate was wearing for their television interviews. We sure do have our finger on the pulse here. Balenciaga have just shown their S/S 2011 at Paris Fashion Week. Stomping down their catwalk was a fab array of our favourite print - over-sized houndstooth. And we've got it a season before them! So get your hands on our kit quick to stay one step ahead of the fashion back - we're predicting this is going to be a trend with staying power, which translates into Money. Well. Spent.

The cute little cropped jacket (£45) in the double jersey houndstooth would look great work with this season's silk blouses and office trousers. Alternatively, pair with a well worn t-shirt and skinny jeans for a touch of rock n' roll cool!

The asymmetric skirt (£35) with it's exposed zip and deep side pocket is a fantasticly unique garment. Tuck a black top in or be brave and pair with the jacket for full-on houndstooth worship!

The designer focuses on producing an eco-friendly shoe using traditional shoe making techniques resulting is a shoe that will last for years and looks fabulous. The components of the shoes comprise by produced leather from the meat industry and the soles are made from recycled car tyres. They are superb quality and the leather is just so soft and cushioned!

Mad Men dominates seasonal trends....

Here in the Dust office we're OBSESSED with Mad Men! The amazing 60s fashions which were seen up and down this season's catwalks by the likes of Prada, Dolce & Gabanna and Isabel Marant are no coincidence - the fashion world has gone Mad Men bonkers. And we haven't escaped it either. Hot off the studio press is our A/W houndstooth suit. In a gorgeous double jersey this asymmetric skirt and jacket duo is great fun. Featuring exposed zips, vintage buttons and quirky pockets, we've got the secretarial trend sussed. Each piece also has bags of potential when worn separately; we're loving the jacket over our summer chinos now that the weather has taken a turn for the worse.

Minimising our impact on the environment:
In our bid to help the environment, the business pays a green tariff for renewable energy, we use low energy lighting and recycle and re-use 70% of our waste. All Dust garments are made from factory surplus fabric, so rather than manufacturing new, we upcycle and use unwanted fabric so no waste is incurred at the cost of the environment. We use ex-industry, reclaimed sewing machines and as our clothes goes straight from studio to store, our carbon foot print is low!

If you don't know who Missoni is, you should!

The legendary Italian Fashion House lays claim to the most recognisable and distinctive knitwear designs in the fashion world. Founded in 1953, the Missoni designs are stunning and absolute classics.

So, on a trip to source fabrics, there was not a chance our Dust designer could pass over the zig-zag fabric they found (see below). The grey, red and cream colour way is the perfect combination for a winter palette and the knit making it a comfortable and stylish choice.

Behind the Seams: Why we're addicted to Mary Queen of Shops

WHO is Mary Queen of Shops..... you may ask?

Retail Guru Mary Portas is back in the firing line in the new series of Mary Queen of shops as she aims to resuscitate fledging Small businesses. It's essential viewing as the sharp-talking Portas uses her retail marketing expertise to inspire and motivate the Independents with her forward thinking attitude.

"We'll miss our neighbourhood shops when they're gone," warned Portas. Having already tackled fashion boutiques and charity shops, now its the turn of local businesses and first up, her attempt to transform family baker Maher & Son.

The first episode draws you in as its not long before frustrated Portas battles with Angela Maher, the owner of the bakery. Why she applied, we were all mystified but one thing was clear she was "a baker of 36 years" (as she kept reminding us) and not willing to take advice from Mary Portas who “doesn’t look like she eats much cake herself.” If you haven't seen it, I don't want to spoil it so catch the show down on iplayer - BBC 2 Mary Queen of Shops episode 1.

While Portas' approach is somewhat ruthless at times, it's the appreciation and absolute belief in the Independent Retailer - Small Businesses, personal services, individual style and strong product that underpins the whole concept.

We're firm believers in this ethos and at the Dust Boutique we're always looking to, in the words of Mary 'pursue areas of potential growth' . Que the next challenge...Production studio! Next season we will officially be creating the whole of the Dust collection from our studio in South London. Head Designer at Dust, Katie Smith will be heading up this venture and the studio will be up and running from the Summer!

We've grown accustomed to being knee deep in fabric with inspiration plastered all over the walls and so what difference will a few more sewing machines make?! The new collection will be coming straight from studio to store and we've all got our fingers crossed for a smooth ride as we embark on this new challenge!

A boutique who designs and manufactures their whole collection in-house and you don't faint at the price. What more could you want?! Watch this space....

Sex And The City 2...We've got the looks!

We're probably more excited than we should be. Jude's seeing it today, Katie's going on Sunday..we're big Sex and the City fans here, and have been counting down to the latest film's release. We love how the girls (well, ladies now) dress and are able to mix up their trends for really unique looks. Take a look at the ideas we have below for following some of their style tips with items from the Dust collection!

Carrie is our fashion-fave, and looks great in this shift dress with quirky pockets. We think our Hepburn dress is coral is a dead ringer and pair it with a black studded belt to add that rock-edge that Carrie does so well!

Charlotte looks really cute in polka dots in the pivotal scene where her anger towards Mr Big causes her waters to burst! We think she could carry off the Eva Polka dot top well too and it works well with or without baby-tummies!

With age, Miranda has really pulled her look together (there were some seriously dodgy outfits in the earlier series!) and looks fab in this striped number which works brilliantly with the colour of her hair. Try our Claudia wrap dress in multi stripe for a similar effect!

Samantha goes for full-on wow factor and would probably look fab in the Roxanne dress, but we can't help but think she could do with toning things down from time to time...we think the Blossom necklace would be a great addition to her strapless summer looks.

Dust and Stardust, Finalists of Best Small Business!

The Dust and Stardust flagship store, the Dust Boutique, has just won a second award after a fantastic evening at The South London Business Awards! Amongst the paps, wine spillages (I am forever sorry to the poor lady sitting next to me who endured the full effect of my clumsiness) and David Jensen, was an exuberant evening celebrating the best of South London's businesses. As finalists for 'Best Small Business', we were delighted to receive our second award this season as we were Highly Commended!! What an honour to receive this recognition, we're buzzing in the office this morning and with winning Best Independent Retailer at the Lambeth Business Awards its great to know we're doing !

The cermony was the debut of my new Roxanne Dress by Dust. I was a bit unsure of whether or not it clashes with my hair (it's taking some getting used to from blonde to red) but I decided to risk it and let the public decide (thanks to the nice lady who complimented me whilst in the ladies toilet). And you might notice that Gel is wearing is exactly the same but in blue.... cleverly accessorising hers with a beautiful vintage brooch and 40's red lips... tres chic. Although I do believe that the ultimate accessory is an Ahmed on your arm, he rocked the look in his tweed grey suit from scandanavian label 4 you.

CONGRATULATIONS..... to the overall winners of the night Rowland Brothers International for scooping Best Business with outstanding contribution to the public. Congratulations also to the girls sat on out table from Independant mindbodysoul for picking up Best Business for Marketing - your threrapies look amazing, I'll be sure to drop by for a treatment soon. And to winners of the Best Small Business category Chainbow, delivering excellent service in the field of Residential Property Management.

Yesterday Jude and I went along to Sketchbook magazine's pop-up shop in Carnaby street for a lecture given by our blogging hero - Susie Bubble. Susie's blog is the ultimate fashion and style blog and is not only hugley inspirational to us, but gets 20,000 hits a day!

Susie was sharing some blogging hints and tips with the packed room of fellow bloggers. She reiterated the importance of unique content and daily updating of posts (which bodes well for you readers, as we'll be making more of a concerted effort now to update this! If Susie says its what we've gotta do, we've gotta do it....).

Also in attendance was the fabulous Amelia Gregory from Amelia's Magazine who also did a talk a couple of weeks ago. It was great to see Susie and Amelia meet for the first time as both were clearly admiring of each other's work.

Life in the Spotlight!

A morning in the life of the Dust Studio as we're filmed by a camera crew!

8.30 am We arrive at the studio excitedly and beginning prepping! We set up the design studio and the print workshop ready for action.

9.30 am The camera crew begin to arrive in a tangle of wires and lighting and talk us through the rough plan! They’re filming a piece about our boutique which recently won an award and have come to see our studio in action.

10.30 am Geraldine is in full swing talking the crew through the diversity of the South London area which influences our brand. The crew seem impressed at the amount of activity under one roof as we design, dispatch, manufacture and print within our office/warehouse/studio!

11. am The crew attempt action shots as Katie whirs away on her sewing machine, printing is in progress and an intrigued trickle of locals stop by! Apparently Katie’s purple tights look great on film!

11.30 am The camera man is practically hanging over the railings on the balcony to try and get a good overhead printing shot!

11.45 am The Dust ‘Best Independent Retailer’ award is quickly polished as Geraldine holds it while being interviewed about what it means to the brand.

11.50am The interview is re-shot as Geraldine is too tall in her heels! The clapper board comes out, the heels are off and it’s take two!

12 pm The interview has gone well and they’ve got some great shots of the studio, we hold back the urge to ask if it’s a wrap!?? The crew leave as quickly as they arrive, promising to return to purchase pieces from the S/S collection that they’ve been admiring!

Fairtrade fornight is already underway and we're proudly showcasing our lastest discovery of Soulo Baroque jewellery.
- If you love statement jewellery then these bold and beautiful pieces are the ones for you!

Soulo jewellery is a range of fairtrade jewellery from South Africa. Artists from Johannesburg make the resin beads and then work with a community of women from Mozambique and Zimbabwe to make the jewellery. The colourful, chunky pieces and the ethos of the project is the real heart of Soulo.

Tomorrow it all kicks off as London Fashion week officially begins!
We're also celebrating the BEST OF BRITISH as we launch the

new collections of our own young british talent. At Dust we're keen

to nuture young British talent and this season, jewellery designer

Maria Allen's new collection for Dust comprises of delicate pieces

in gold and silver from owls to swallows and for those feeling bold

the octopus necklace is one to watch!

We're yet to find a female not mad about bags! This season we're

launching a range of bags from leather brand Stabo. With
distinctive features and irresistable colours we're not surprised we
already have pre-orders!

The Hunt is on this Saturday, in the tunnel at Herne Hill Station! The hunt starts at 1pm and is followed by prizes and partying! Look out for Stardust’s presence as our t-shirts will be splashed with the opinions of the local kids! Music, street art and did we mention PrIzEs!?
